Last Etchings?
A few undated etchings by Brewer seem less ambitious and may come from his last years as an artist during the war when he and Florence had left their home in Acton, with its equipped studio, and removed to Buckinghamshire. From existing examples, they appear to be more subject to fading from light exposure than Brewer's earlier etchings (perhaps because of a different inking process?). They may have been issued after the last of his series authorized by the Fine Art Trade Guild (1939) and therefore overlap his successful efforts in printing woodcuts. The number of his FATG editions dropped after 1932, when he issued 11 authorized etchings. In 1933 there were only five, including the mysterious "Into the Light" (which may be associated with a health incident), and after that, only two in 1934, 1935, 1937, 1938, and 1939.
